Rehabilitation support at home, built around your goals
Practical, hands-on support that helps someone put their rehabilitation goals into practice, in their own home and community, at their own pace.
What rehabilitation support is
Our rehabilitation assistants provide practical, hands-on support to help people put their goals into practice. They work alongside our specialist associates, following agreed goals and strategies, so someone can practise skills and build confidence in real-life settings rather than in a clinic.
They are not support workers, carers or personal assistants, and this is not personal care. Rehabilitation support is about doing things with someone, not for them: the point of every session is that the person needs a little less help next time.
Sessions are often four to five hours at a time, once or twice a week, though you choose the hours that suit you. Typical work includes accessing the community, going to the gym or swimming, practising everyday skills at home, and working towards the goals that person has set.
What a rehabilitation assistant helps with
Daily routines
Establishing morning routines, preparing meals, managing household tasks and planning the day.
Confidence outside the home
Going shopping, using public transport, visiting a cafe, and getting back to familiar places.
Cognitive strategies
Practical approaches to memory, planning, attention and fatigue, used in real situations rather than as exercises.
Hobbies and interests
Returning to sport, gardening, music, volunteering or whatever that person wants back in their week.
Social connection
Reconnecting with friends, family, clubs and community activities after a period away from them.
The next step
Building the confidence and practical skills to move towards education, volunteering, employment or greater independence at home.
How support is arranged
You choose the hours you would like each week and the associate you would like to work with. Every associate sets their own hourly rate and their own travel distance, and our online tool only shows you the associates who can actually reach your postcode and cover the hours you have chosen. You see their experience, specialisms and qualifications before you decide.
Support is arranged as a package of 3, 6 or 12 months, and your full price is itemised before you commit to anything. Mileage for travel that forms part of a session is charged at a set rate per mile and shown as its own line, and any hours worked at unsociable times carry an unsociable uplift, shown as its own line in the same way. Nothing is hidden inside the hourly rate.
Every associate is enhanced DBS checked. Those who support children hold an enhanced DBS check for work with children, and we match each person to an associate cleared for their age group. Progress is recorded in structured session notes, and case managers and funders can follow visits, goals and updates through their own secure online access.
Common questions
Is this the same as a carer or a support worker?
No. A rehabilitation assistant works to agreed rehabilitation goals and strategies, with the aim of the person needing less support over time. We do not provide personal care such as washing, dressing or toileting, and we do not administer medication. That means we are not a regulated care service and are not CQC-registered.
How many hours a week do I need?
That is up to you and what you are working towards. Sessions are often four to five hours at a time, once or twice a week, because a longer session gives time to actually go somewhere and practise something. Some associates set a minimum number of hours per day and this is shown on their profile before you choose them.
Can I choose who supports me?
Yes, wherever possible. Our online tool shows you the associates who can cover your area and your hours, with their experience, specialisms and qualifications, so you can compare them and pick the person you feel is the right fit. If you are arranging support on someone else's behalf, we encourage you to involve them in that decision.
Do you cover my area?
We work across England, and we are building coverage outwards from the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire. Whether we can reach you depends on the associates near you and the distance each is willing to travel, so the quickest way to find out is to enter your postcode in our online quote tool, or get in touch and we will tell you what is possible.
